BaltCoast 2004 Managing the Baltic Sea focused on five main aspects:

• State of the art in Baltic coastal management: Projects, strategies co-operations (Interreg etc.) and activities on Baltic ICZM in the different countries as well as experiences from regional ICZM initiatives and projects.
   
• Overview of National activities on the recommendation of the European Parliament and of the council of 30 May 2002 concerning the implementation of Integrated Coastal Zone Management in Europe (2002/413/EC).
   
• River Basin - Coast Interactions in the Baltic: Strategies and activities as well as regional initiatives.
   
• Uses, planning and management of Baltic waters: e.g. Offshore-wind farms, Natura 2000, Water Framework Directive, shipping, fisheries, marine tourism, eutrophication.
